BWF MetaEdit Version 1.3 Released
AVPreserve is pleased to announce the release of BWF MetaEdit Version 1.3 on May 9th for free download through Sourceforge http://sourceforge.net/projects/bwfmetaedit/. BWF MetaEdit is an open source desktop tool developed by the Federal Agencies Digitization Guidelines Initiative (FADGI) with support from AudioVisual Preservation Solutions that allows users to embed, validate, and export metadata in Broadcast WAVE Format (BWF) files. This ability is a critical component of file management and preservation workflows for digital collections, and before BWF MetaEdit was developed these activities were only possible through use of expensive professional software systems, if at all.
Users of BWF MetaEdit can:
*Import, edit, embed, and export specified metadata elements in WAVE audio files
*Export technical metadata from Format Chunks and minimal metadata from bext and INFO chunks as comma-separated values and/or XML, across a set of files or from individual files
*Evaluate, verify and embed MD5 checksums, as applied to the WAVE file’s data chunk (audio bitstream only)
*Enforce the guideline (above) developed by the Federal Agencies Audio-Visual Working Group, as well as specifications from the European Broadcasting Union (EBU), Microsoft, and IBM
*Generate reports that show errors in the construction of WAVE files
*Choose from command line and GUI, for Windows/PC, Macintosh OS, Linux.
This update resolves a number of issues or suggestions brought about through user feedback, including fixes to the generation of UMIDs and improved stability in a Windows environment when working with WaveLab files. We appreciate the feedback and look forward to continuing to improve this tool for the user community.
