AVPreserve Ramping Up for October, The Month of Conferences
The temperatures have (thankfully) cooled down, but our schedule hasn’t! The AVPreserve team is speaking at a pile of conferences in the month of October.
Things kick off with the International Association of Sound & Audiovisual Archives Annual Conference in Cape Town, South Africa. Senior Consultant Bertram Lyons will be on hand to present a paper on our Cost of Inaction Calculator and also conduct a training session on “Digital Curation & Preservation Tools: Validation, Automation, & Detection”. Bert will also chair a plenary talk, contributed to a paper on FADGI’s digital video guidance with our friends Kate Murray, Carl Fleischhauer, & Guha Shankar, and will be acting in his official capacity as Editor of IASA publications. Whew!
The following week sees Senior Consultant Josh Ranger presenting a paper at the New York Archives Week Symposium on the challenges business practices present in preserving institutional culture. Also that week the crew heads off to the Association of Moving Image Archivists Annual Conference in Savannah, GA! AVPreserve President and AMIA Board Member Chris Laciank will present an update on the MXF Application Standard with George Blood and James Snyder, Consultant Seth Anderson will give a talk on assessing cloud storage vendors, and Senior Consultant Kara Van Malssen will of course be running the DLF/AMIA Hack Day with Lauren Sorensen and Steven Villereal, as well as participating in panels about development of MoMA’s digital repository and models for international outreach and exchange in archives.
Later in the month Bert and Josh will be conducting a day-long workshop Ingest & Management of Digital Collection at the Mid-Atlantic Regional Archives Conference Fall 2014 meeting in the Charm City, and Chris will once again be jetting to Amsterdam, this time to give a keynote talk on the Cost of Inaction Calculator at the Fédération Internationale des Archives de Télévision / The International Federation of Television Archives (FIAT/IFTA) World Conference. It’s a whole lotta acronyms, but we’re looking forward to a lot of learning and a lot of fun with our friends and colleagues.
