Following on the success of AV Archives Nights in 2014 and 2015, AVPreserve announces the third annual AV Archives Night to take place at the Society of American Archivists’ Annual Meeting on Wednesday, August 3rd in Atlanta, Georgia. The venue and lineup will be announced soon, but in the meantime, we hope institutions in Georgia, Alabama, Kentucky, Mississippi, and Tennessee will consider participating!
There are no limitations on the types of audio and visual content you can submit, but we’d like the submissions to support our goals of celebrating recently digitized or acquired audio and visual collections with a local or regional focus made available by the hardworking archivists in the regions near the conference.
How to submit your content:
Submissions must be available in a digital format that is suitable for projection or playback over a sound system. Both digitized or born-digital content is accepted. A low resolution version is sufficient for submission in order to review and plan the programming, but plan to send us a high-res version for the night of the screening.
Content should be a maximum of about 3 minutes. Multiple submissions are acceptable, but the grand total of running time should be a maximum of about 7 minutes per institution.
Metadata (aka The Details)
Submissions must include all of the following details:
- • Your name
- • The name of your institution as it should be printed in the program
- • The title of each piece
- • The creator(s)
- • The year of creation/copyright/publication of each piece
- • The original format(s)
- • A short description of each piece
The event will be free and open to the public. The contributing archive must have the rights to present the material and is responsible for confirming those rights. AVPreserve will delete or return all copies of materials provided per the request of the contributing archive. AVPreserve will claim no rights or ownership over any material or use it for any purposes outside of projection at this one time event.
Email Amy Rudersdorf (amy at avpreserve.com) with questions and to submit your content. We’re looking forward to seeing and hearing what you have to share!
The Nitty Gritty
This will be a public event so you don’t need to be registered for SAA to attend.
While we are not an official SAA program, AV Archives Night will adhere to the SAA Code of Conduct and the organizers will address any issues and support directing issues through official SAA channels.
Thanks to our event partners, the Association of Moving Image Archivists (AMIA), Dust-to-Digital, University of Georgia Libraries, and
the Digital Library of Georgia, for their help getting this year’s event off the ground.
