Fixity Tutorial Now Available

This week AVPreserve released version 0.4 of Fixity, our free file monitoring tool. Fixity allows users to schedule regular scans of folders or whole directories to check both file integrity against stored checksums and file attendance against filesystem locations (i.e., have files been added, moved, or gone missing). After a scheduled run a report is emailed to the user, detailing any discrepancies or changes that then allow the user to assess or resolve any potential issues.

Fixity v0.4 now supports use on 64-bit Mac OSX and also presents a number of significant updates such as support for the MD5 checksum algorithm, greatly improved flexibility in editing scheduled scans while maintaining existing data gathered, and interface and stability improvements. Today we are also happy to offer an online video tutorial on using Fixity, presented by Consultant Kathryn Gronsbell. The video is available in our Tutorials section, or directly through Vimeo, YouTube, and the Internet Archive. Fixity and supporting documentation can be downloaded for free on our Tools page at https://www.avpreserve.com/avpsresources/tools/
